The Theatre of Milan - A new context for opera and ballet

In 2013, the restoration of an old cinema hall of the 70s brought to life a new theatre that took the name of the city which hosts it: the Theatre of Milan.

This ambitious project was fulfilled by Maestro Carlo Pesta, a prominent figure of the Italian cultural and theatrical world. He was a director and an artistic director of important theatre foundations such as Festival Pucciniano of Torre del Lago, Teatro Coccia of Novara and Teatro Sociale of Mantova where he produced prestigious opera and ballet performances which were exposed in numerous Italian theatres: Teatro Donizetti of Bergamo, Giglio of Lucca, Goldoni of Livorno, Verdi of Pisa, Sociale of Rovigo, Carlo Felice of Genova, Comunale of Bologna, Verdi of Trieste, Grande of Brescia, and many others.

In 2011, after moving with his family to Lugano (Switzerland), he decided to give life in Milan to a new centre of production of lyric and ballet performances of a high artistic impact, destined especially for Italy and abroad. The Theatre of Milan, which is also a home to the famous dancing company “The Ballet of Milan”, thanks to Maestro Pesta’s ample project has become an important point of reference for lyric and choral world owing to multiple activities offered to the audience of Milan and not only.

The productions conceived by Maestro Carlo Pesta and realized for the Theatre of Milan have always been considered by the audience and critics to be highly successful. They are distinguished by some peculiar features such as innovation and topicality and at the same time keeping to fidelity to traditional librettos.

The Theatre of Milan collaborates with famous lyric artists, with Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana and many other figures of the world of bel canto. This ensures the excellent result and guaranteed pleasure for the audience that loves tradition and fidelity to the art of geniuses of Italian opera, the fathers of the most significant operas which have always been staged all over the world. The productions of the ballet created exclusively for the Ballet of Milan are not less so considerable.
